how lffielddata.updat() method works?

Please if anybody can tell me the working of lffielddata.update() method.

I suspect that this method is populating wrong value to one of our template fields even if that field has not been updated by any activity.

Yes, I'm using it in script.

Then it would save any field changes you make in your script. It might be easier to answer your question if you post the code you're using in the script.
