Question

how to disable or hide the sign button on laserfiche metadata.

asked on February 18, 2014

i have make a workflow that need two person to sign the document and when the document is send to the workflow i make a shortcut of the document so the person who initiated the document can check the status of document, but the other two persons also have a read only right to the folder when the document is created and when the document is send to the workflow its move form person one inbox to person two inbox so they sign it. but there is a problem happened that because they both have read only right to the folder the document created person 2 can sign the shortcut document before person 1 and the document stuck in their inbox. so if there is a way to disable the sign button on the shortcut document not the original.

There aren't any rights that you can remove from person 2 to prevent them from signing before person 1.  You can use custom CSS in Web Access to hide UI elements like the signing button, but your case is complicated by the fact that you want to do it conditionally based on the current user's identity and the existence of a signature.  That's really beyond the scope of what you can do.

I think it would be better if you fixed your workflow to handle the signatures being applied in any order.  Would it make sense for your workflow to delete person 2's signature if person 1 has not yet signed?

Is your real problem that your business process requires them to sign in a particular order, or that your workflow breaks if they sign in the wrong order?

yes my business process requires them to sign in particular order but i have created a shortcut document so the initiator who start the process can check the status of the document. the document then move from one person to another after they sign it, but also i give them a read only to the folder when the business process is created so they have the ability to sign the shortcut document because i cant disable the sign button and then the workflow breaks because they sign in the wrong order.

thanks brian for your response. but is there a way to give a user right on a folder to sign document in it. for example in folder (y) user can sign document but in folder (x) he cant by disable the sign button in laserfiche desktop client.

This particular level of granularity is not possible, I'm afraid.
