Question

WebLink replaced by Web Access and Web Distribution Portal?

asked on February 17, 2014

I'm troubleshooting an issue with their WebLink product but I'm unclear on the exact licensing I should be seeing.  In the past they had a Group Server license and a WebLink license.  Now they have Avante, Web Access, and Web Distribution Portal license but the WebLink has expired.  Is the WebLink software still used for configuration?  Is the license required?  I'm afraid I'm lost.

Yes, WebLink is still around, and it is not the same as Web Access. Unlike WebLink, Web Access is not read-only; it gives full access into the repository. WebLink does not have its own license, but uses Public Portal to allow non-named user access. Your Web Distribution Portal license allows for five concurrent read-only connections through the Public Portal. They already have the pieces to the puzzle, now they just need to put them together! To get their Public Portal working, they will have to download the license file from the My License Files section of the Support Site. From there, just place the license file in the appropriate location, and restart the server.
