I am generating pages from a pdf file that is only 106kb. When it gets into laserfiche the file size jumps up to over 6mb. Is there a reason why it would have such a huge discrepancy between file sizes? I am not generating any text from import.

Answer
Using the "Generate monochrome pages" option if color wasn't an important component of the PDF was exactly what I was going to suggest! For others who might have this same problem, you can configure this in the Laserfiche Client by going to Tools > Options > Generate Pages, or in Web Access and going to Settings > Generate Pages. Once there, select "Generate monochrome pages." This forces Laserfiche to generate the pages in black and white. (Obviously if the PDF has color that you want to retain, you don't want to use this option, but it's great for text-based PDFs.)

Does the document have any color in it? Another reason might be that a document might be compressed any number of ways inside a PDF. When the pixels are translated into a TIFF file, the lossless compression is bound to increase the size. I'm not sure how generating pages from PDF works, but 6MB sounds a bit high. Do you have a sample document that represents the scenario?
The pdf document I was using was just plain text that was a college transcript produced through speedy. Some schools are set up to send their transcripts using speedy in order to make it paperless and not require watermarks/high quality paper.
I did figure out a solution though: When I imported the pdf I changed the settings to generate the pages in monochrome and this make a huge difference.
Since the pages I need are just text without any color this seems to be the best route.
Side note, having the pages generated in monochrome gave a huge increase in Quick Fields PPM.

Hello Constance
I have the same issue with Generating pages for PDF in Client. I am dragging or importing PDF file into Laserfiche client. I have selected Generate Monochrome Pages under Options but its not making any difference on the size of file. The tiff are converted to BW or looks like gray scale image (in contrast the result from QF session are true BW and tiff size is very small). I am using client version 9.1.1, is there anything that I might miss?
For example my file is 8.44 MB PDF, I am keeping the original file, there are 237 pages in it and the file size on tiff are about 69MB. Doing the same thing from QF session gives me 5 MB tiff (with 200 dpi bw). I am trying to achieve the same thing.
In addition to above mentioned, I am trying to keep the Original PDF (either color or BW) as they are and generate BW pages with low resolution.
Thanks
Hm, I tried to recreate your issue because I have a pdf that is around 5 MB. When doing so the file size did increase but it only went from 5 MB to 6 MB with a dpi of 300. Just to make sure, when you changed your settings to generate monochrome, you did so under Options > New Documents > Settings correct? There are technically two places where you can set monochrome.
One is under Generate Pages > General. This one is for PDFs that are already in the repository. Check and make sure that Options > New Documents > Settings under When Importing PDFs: you have import monochrome images checked. This is also where you will find the option to Keep original PDF files.
