Question

Starter Public Portal and Administering User Names and Passwords

asked on February 13, 2014

Can the Starter Public Portal be configured so that specific users can be given login names and passwords to be able to retrieve confidential information?  In other words, rather than using it as an all public portal, being able to use it in both ways?

Thanks.

Named users can always login through public portal using their user account. You don't explicitly need a separate instance, but if you want your main login to be 'automatic', you probably would need to set up an alternate virtual directory for people to provide credentials (It's all the same instance, its just basically a different landing page - does it autologin as a predefined public user or provide you with a way to provide user credentials). The Web Link administrative documentation has some information about this, a good starting point would be: http://www.laserfiche.com/support/webhelp/weblink/8.2/en-US/WLA/WL8Admin_CSH.htm#Virtual%20Directory.htm

Would that be Laserfiche Named Users only or does that include AD users who have named licenses?

Laserfiche Named Users, which includes both Directory Named Users (AD) and Repository Named Users (lf user accounts on a specific repository).

You'll need to set up a separate instance of WebLink for each authentication type. Take a look at the WebLink Administrator application and for each instance, you'll be able to define whether you want to authenticate using anonymous, Laserfiche, or Windows users.
