How to set up the Laserfiche Search Engine to do a federated search

asked on February 13, 2014

On the Laserfiche website, it says "While developed for Laserfiche, our search engine provides federated search capabilities and can index other data stores, repositories and Websites." That's great to know, but how do you set it up to do searches across multiple locations? I don't see any documentation about it.

There is nothing there except a description of what it is. Looking for documentation on how to setup saved searches.

Hi John,

There are other pages underneath the one that Blake linked, if you open the folder in the Search TOC. For example https://www.laserfiche.com/support/webhelp/Laserfiche/10/en-US/administration/#../Subsystems/LFSearch/Content/Performing-Federated-Search.htm. There isn't specific documentation on creating saved searches, but it's the same idea as the web client - you set up the search in the advanced UI and click the save button in the bottom.

Justin,

Thank you, looked there also. I know how an end user could save a search and that makes sense. What is missing is this function in the admin area. As an admin, it looks like you can import saved searches. How is this function used? Can you create a filtered search and pass it out globally? Can you set up a way for users to filter? We have a client that is looking for an easy way for employees to pick maybe SOPs for one search and MDS or SDS documents for another search

Also, another area that we are looking for documentation on is the Chrome extensions and the Web Provider search setups. This client wants to search their website and also their SharePoint and I want to set up a demo sample for them to look at.
