Question

Is there a way to get the Entry IDs of documents from their shortcuts?

asked on February 12, 2014

I've got folders with many shortcuts to documents in Laserfiche V9, and I need to get a list of the document Entry IDs (as opposed to the shortcut Entry IDs which I can show in a column when looking at the folder).

Is there any way of getting the document Entry ID without clicking on the shortcut to open the document?

I don't believe there is. If there is a Business need for this I'm guessing you add it to a field and then display it on a field but I'm not sure if that would be worth it.

It's a good troubleshooting idea though that I would think wouldn't be that hard to implement, maybe you should say "I'd like this as a feature request" :)

The target path should be listed as part of the properties in addition to the Entry ID. That information could be very useful in a number of instances including troubleshooting when user does not have browse rights to target folder or for WF to use.

If you right-click on the shortcut and open its properties, it will list the entry ID of the target document. Though I'm not sure if that's any easier than following the shortcut to its target.

Thanks Miruna and Chris. I hadn't thought of using a field. I can set one up temporarily and populate it with the Entry ID and delete it when I'm done with my batch updating.
