Feature request: Field changes visible within versions tab

asked on February 12, 2014

Hi all,

I'd like to log a feature request that has come to me from a customer. They would like more information about changes made to a document between versions to be visible at a glance.

Currently, each version has a value in the column named "Changes" that shows what has been modified in that version. In here, Laserfiche will indicate if the metadata has been changed, but not which pieces of metadata specifically. Consequently, the customer has to open up the fields for each version and compare against the previous, which is more cumbersome than they would like. This isn't helped by the fact that the metadata is not quite as quick to open as a normal document, as the "Fields" button is contained in a sub-menu of the actual right click menu.

In this case we use the template to perform approvals for invoice payment, and the particular metadata change that the customer is looking for is the status field changing to indicate approval (primarily for auditing purposes). The request is to include an additional column here showing the names of the fields that have been modified, so that when looking through a long list of versions it's quicker to tell which is the version they are seeking.

Thanks for reading!

Hi Martin,

I agree this would be a useful feature for various other use cases as well. However thinking about this I currently see 2 workaround for this with the current functionality of 9.1.1.

  1. Could the approval process not be mapped to Business Processes in workflow? Within Business Processes you can see the history of the approval process, and what the user needs to do next. Same problem of right click though. Except just select 'Business process details' rather than 'metadata'.
  2. Audit trail can track the changes. Yes the interface isn't very user friendly but it's certainly a feasible workaround. (Note:- also a purchasable option for avante users)

Laserfiche? What are your thoughts.......
