Opening PDFs from WA 9 in IE 9 Prompting To Open or Save

asked on February 11, 2014

We recently rolled out IE 9 to all our users and now when they go to open a PDF from WA 9, they are prompted to open or save the document (and no option to remember which was chosen).

I believe this is an IE 9 security feature, but I'm trying to determine if there's a way to disable it for just documents opened from our WA server.

My IT guys have found a registry hack to prevent the message, but it seems to be a global change that could weaken our security position.

Has anyone found a solution to this without disabling the security feature entirely?

This is generally an issue with having the correct active X plugin for pdf's. IE doesn't render PDF's natively like Chrome does.

This link gives some suggestions, the easiest is probably to set PDF's to open up in acrobat instead of inside the browser. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie9-windows_7/cannot-open-pdf-files-in-internet-explorer-9/05ff6071-9284-4ec8-9362-6e6b0f9bc1a3
