Question

Unable to open QF 9.0.0 Sesion

asked on February 8, 2014 Show version history

As I was running a Quick Fields session, Quick Fields crashed and gave me the option to close the program or look for a solution on the Internet. I selected look for a solution but QF closed anyway - just realized it said check for solution and close. Restarted QF and session. After performing the metadata update I got an error that stated 'Object reference not set to an instacne of an object.' When I click on the okay button, I can see the session somewhat loaded (the title of the session is present and the retrieval path is correct) but I end up at the 'Start Page' and cannot do anything.

I am under a tight deadline and need to get the session operational again. Are there any ideas out there?

I am including a copy of the JIT Log. Maybe it will help.

Update:

As originally stated, it appears the session somewhat loaded. The scan button was also available so I tried running the session. It appeared to be running as I was able to F3 and see the output pane and the output but no other panes were available at that time. After a minute of execution, I canceled the run and got the same error message as stated before so I was able to get the problem signature. Still stuck though.

Problem signature:

Chris,

This is not the same error even though the error message is the same. Does this happen when you OCR a sample image from the session creation wizard? If yes, that issue has been hotfixed with KB1013389. If not, then please have your reseller open a support case.

I'm guessing that you don't have a backup, and I'm sure I'm harping on things but one thing I've tried to stress to my clients is to always make a copy of the document after every change so that you have two copies of your QFX files. (I create an archive folder for this and have them copy and paste their QFX files into that folder from windows)

The one thing that struck me with your dilemma is that it sounds like you can load the session but it crashes when you try to execute it. If this is the case here's a weird trick you can try: do a file/export session then exit completely out of QF and go back in. When you go back into it load a non corrupt session (or create a new one) then import that session you exported.

It's an off the wall suggestion but I've seen situations where the act of exporting cleans up the file you are trying to export and removes corruption. I've had similar issues like this where that did the trick.

What version of Quick Fields is it? Do you have Workflow installed on this machine as well? If, yes, what version?

It is on a test server that has WF 8.3 on it but it is not running (the designer, subscriber nor any of it's services). QF version is 9.0.0.460.

It just happened to another session. Now I am getting this error:

'EndElement' is an invalid XmlNodeType. Line 551, position 7.

Is there some way to get the classifications out of these corrupted sessions as I now have two production sessions that will not run and I would really hate to recreate them.

Thanks.

I am getting the same error: 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object.'

when trying to OCR a sample page in QuickFields.
