Karen,

.lfe files are shortcuts for the LF Client, they require the LF Client to be installed and won't open in Web Access.

Just to follow up on Miruna's point: while .lfes only work for the LF Client, if you want to provide a link directly to a document, folder, or set of search results in Web Access, you can do so with a URL.  More info and instructions are available in the URL section of the Web Access help.

I'm having a similar issue. Most, if not all, of our company computers have the LF client installed. Some of our users on shared computers access their email via OWA. When a shortcut that sent from a workflow is opened, we get the following prompts:

First:

Second:

Any thoughts as to why an lfe wouldn't open when launched from OWA on a computer with the client installed? I've been successful in opening lfe using Outlook, iOS and Android.

Most likely OWA stripped the .lfe file of its contents. The document shortcut is just an xml file with an .lfe extension. Try downloading the file from OWA vs from Outlook and compare the two.

That's exactly what happening, I just compared both files and the OWA lfe is empty.

Off to google!!!!! Unless you know why this is happening?

The default OWA mailbox policy is to strip attachments of XML data. You can try the suggestion from this site and add .xml and .lfe to the allowed files list.
