Noticed today that I am missing all documents that were created or modified in one specific sub folder(s) from a certain year. Why?

 Noticed today that I am missing all documents that were created or modified in one specific sub folder(s) from a certain year.  Why?

The first things that come to my mind are:

  1. They were moved to the recycle bin, take a look in there
  2. They were deleted, if you have Audit Trail you might be able to verify if that's the case
  3. They were moved to another location, if you search the whole repository you might be able to find them
  4. They are there, but you don't have permission to see them
