Question

Has anyone else found the LFFTS service uses more resources after upgrading to 9.1?

asked on February 4, 2014

I found after upgrading from 9.0.2 to 9.1 that the LFFTS service requires more committed memory usage than it did in 9.0.2, where it more than doubled in usage (it used to hover around 200mbs now hovers around 500mbs).  Is the doubling of memory usage normal due to the additional tasks the service has with indexing metadata as well?  Should this be of any concern?

All repositories have recently finished being re-indexed, and these numbers were taken after-hours with low levels of end user activity.

LFFTS 9.1 may use more resources in some situations for better performance.

If there are only LFFTS and LFS on that machine, LFFTS will adjust suitable memory usage. If there are other applications running on the machine, or there is a performance issue, you may set the memory usage for LFFTS. See http://www.laserfiche.com/support/webhelp/Laserfiche/9.1/en-us/AdminGuide/LFAdmin.htm#search_engine_configuration_utility.htm for details.

I would assume this is due to the enhancements in Laserfiche 9.1 that include the LFFTS service.

Laserfiche Server and Full-Text Search. In Laserfiche 9.1, we have adjusted our text search to make it more intuitive, and more in line with search functionality that users are already familiar with in web browsers and when searching in Windows. We have also expanded the functionality of the Laserfiche Full-Text Indexing and Search Engine to include annotation and metadata information, allowing users to take advantage of full-text search features when searching for these types of information. We have also introduced support for additional algorithm options for encrypted volumes and digital signatures.

Thanks for the response.  I too am assuming the resource usage spiked due to the enhancements, but I've gotten in trouble assuming things in the past so I figured I'd throw the question out there.

I know what you mean about getting in trouble for assuming things. My father has given me that talk a few times. Lol.

On all new one box/server solutions I always limit the LFFTS memory, even on the new V11. To do this you need to follow these instructions:-

Open the command prompt and navigate to C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\LFFTS. Run the following command

lfftscfg.exe mem <limit>

where <limit> is the maximum amount of memory (in bytes) that LFFTS can use. For example, running

lfftscfg.exe mem 5000000000

Would be 5GB.
