Question

access right report

asked on February 2, 2014

 Hi,

I have a client that needs to generate access rights report on entries or per user (what actions can the user perform on which entries).

I was redirected to the following tool - https://support.laserfiche.com/CodeLibraryFrames.aspx?id=381

Same generates access rights report per folder and dumps it in a CSV.

The problem is that this tool is not compatible with Laserfiche 9+...it does not return the security scope as it is set and displays only explicit rights for child entries. The tools also returns some strange values (e.g. Records management related rights on a system where RME is not activated).

Has anyone updated this tool for Laserfiche 9+? I couldn't succeed in finding an appropriate tool on the forums and LF Audit trail displays only 'changes' so this is not appropriate too.

Thanks for advising

The utility has always only returned explicit access rights - it does not try to determine effective rights as that could be a massive undertaking, requiring it to list the full rights string for every single possible user in the system for every entry. I understand that the inclusing of RM rights can be seen as a bit odd, but that's also behaving correctly - as far as the Server is concerned, those rights are always there, they just are only exposed and used if you have Records Management Edition. A report that would be recording everything assigned to the entry would still include them though.

I hadn't heard before that this wasn't compatible with 9+, so I wonder if it's more that it simply doesn't do quite what you wanted it to. This solution article covers specifically what it does and doesn't do: http://www.laserfiche.com/solutionexchange/article/report-access-rights-for-an-entry-or-set-of-entries

I am trying to use this utility as well, and it is failing.  I am using LF 9.2, and if I run either the 81 or 82 version of the utility, it crashes without ever showing the interface.  If I run the 72 version, it says I'm not logged into a database, even though I have LF Client open and logged in.  Any advice would be appreciated.  There's not much in the way of instructions with this, so if there is some special setup that needs to be done, please let me know.  Thanks!

UPDATE: I installed the 8.3 toolkit, and now none of the versions are crashing anymore, but they all say I'm not logged into a database, when I am.

Just downloaded the utility, I am on LF 9.2.  The utility has 3 versions, 2 of them won't run (xx81.exe and xx82.exe).  The xx72.exe launches, but it says not logged into a database.

Anyone has luck with this tool?

Hi, is this Access Report Tool valid for LF v10? I can't seem to run it.

Hi Peter,

It should work, that said access right reporting functionality has been added directly in the web client in 10.1 (and windows client in 10.2) so the utility should not actually be needed anymore.

that's good information. but i still can't seem to find out how to generate the report of all the access rights permissions for all the folders in my repository v10.3.1. Where exactly is this feature listed in the LF Client?

The solution does not install any of the dlls that it depends on, it relies on a matching version of the Laserfiche Windows client being installed on the machine already.  It shouldn't be hard to modify the program to use whichever version of the client you have, but that's why it won't work with version 9 or 10 clients out of the box.

Thanks Justin and Brian. I've read the help files and have tested the behavior and it works as expected using the Web Client. The LF Client however does not allow the option to Generate the report as an excel file.

The windows client version has more limited functionality. I'd recommend using the web client version.

I am trying to make a Laserfiche security report at the folder level. What I need is to know about all the folders in the repository that users and what permissions they have over them.
I have tried to use the reports by Webclient, however, for this I must enter user by user so that the reports are reflected, and taking into account that there are 500 users it is a bit tedious ...
Is there any other way to do this?
