Question

WebLink Column Width Settings

asked on January 31, 2014

I am aware of how to set default columns in WebLink.  However, we need to be able to set column widths to a specific value, and then have WebLink users be able to resize columns as they see fit.  We can set specific colunmn widths, and users can resize columns as they see fit in the Win32 client, and in WebAccess.

In  WebLink the column widts seem to 'auto' size them selves.  If a column value is large then the rest of the columns will spill off the page requiring users to have to pan left/right to see everything.  We would rather that each screen when browsing, start with a standard column width, and then allow the user to adjust column widths on the fly.

Please advise.

Hi Dave,

WebLink is designed to provide read-only access to content in your repository. It gives users the ability to find and read documents, but minimal interaction capabilities because it is not a full client like Web Access or the Desktop Client.

Because this product is designed for basic and easy interaction, users don't have the option of resizing the width of their columns, among other features that are available in the full clients. To make things simple for the users, WebLink automatically adjusts the size of your columns to fit the content displayed in them. This means that for the most part users can see what they want without putting in any time or effort setting up column widths for different columns and different folders.

If you're set on changing the widths of the columns displayed away from how WebLink automatically sizes, them you can edit the CSS class for .EntrySorterCell and remove the left/right padding. However, this may mess with your display and give you a permanently changed column width, not re-sizable columns.

If being able to adjust the width of columns on the fly is very important to your users, Web Access or the Desktop Client sound like a better option for you! You can always give a user read-only access in these applications and use access rights to keep your content secure like you have it in WebLink.
