Question

Question

Using Import Agent with a .lst file.

asked on January 30, 2014

Some background.  We currently use a 3rd party software that will monitor a directory on a server for .txt files.  The .txt file contains pipe (|) delimited information about a corresponding .tif file. (IE FileName|ReportDate|Incident Number)

It uses that information along with an .ini file to import the .tif file into Laserfiche. It assigns the template and fills the template fields (Name, Date, Number).

once it process the .tif/.txt combination it moves them both to a processed directory on the server.

I want to replace this with Import Agent.

I setup Import Agent to monitor a test directory for .lst files.

I output my .lst file and my .tif file to the directory (One .lst file per .tif file) expecting Import Agent to detect the .lst file, import it at which time Laserfiche will see it as the list file that it is and import the .tif file that it corresponds to.  But nothing happens.

If I manually drag and drop the .lst file into Laserfiche it imports the .tif file as expected, with the correct template and template data so I know my .lst file is ok.

So my questions are:

  • Should this work or am I way off base?
  • If it should work, will the settings in my Import Agent profile be applied to the .tif files imported via the .lst file that the profile finds?  Meaning will it move my .lst file AND the .tif file to the processed folder or just the .lst file?

Thanks for your time.  I am leaving for the day. Looking forward to some info in the morning.

Import Agent can process *.lst files. You need to make sure that the "Recognize files with .lst extensions as list files" option is enabled though. Next, if you configure your Import Agent profile to filter *.lst files, then it will ignore the *.tif files so there wouldn't be any "double" imports.

If things are configured properly, but still not working as expected, you can check the application event log on the Import Agent computer to get more information about any possible errors. Also, if further assistance is needed, you can contact your Laserfiche reseller to open a support case.

It's the little things that get ya.  I had .lst in my filter list.  Not *.lst.  When I read your response it jumped out at me immediately.

Thanks,

Matt
