Question

Modifying the creation date

asked on January 29, 2014

We have a customer that we are migrating around 2 million records from their old DMS to Laserfiche.

Each of the records have a creation date, that we need to use in workflows in LF.

Is there away of updating the creation date in LF to match the date from the old system.

We don't want to use a metadata field if possible.

What is the recommended process to do this? or is it possible, SDK etc.

Or is modifying the DB directly an option?

This is a one time import of all the old files, all new files will use the date they are uploaded to Laserfiche as the creation date.

By design, there is no supported way to change an entry's creation date.  The only way to do it would be by updating the toc table directly.  There's the usual concern about the LF server caching values in memory, so you should plan on restarting the service after you make your changes.

You mentioned that they were records. Are you using Workflow 9.1?

It is possible to change the filing date for a record, and if you are on Workflow 9.1, you can use the Additional Properties dialog for Find Entry, Find Entries, and Search Repository activities to select the Filing Date property. This will allow the Filing Date to be used as a token in your workflow.
