Question

How I do restore the menu toolbar on the document viewer?

asked on January 29, 2014

We are using Laserfiche Client 8.3.  On one of our workstations the document viewer opens but is missing the menu and toolbar. I have not found a way to access the toolbar settings.  Right-click only provides options for restore, minimize, etc. Resetting the user's attributes has no effect.  How do I restore the menu and toolbar on the document viewer?

Update on this situation:  We opened a case, and got the suggestion to remove the entire user profile from the registry.  That seemed drastic, and we found that we could resolve this specific issue as follows:

For each machine, and logged in as the user:

-- Close the Laserfiche client and the Admin Console, stop any process named lfsession
-- Open the registry with regedit
-- Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Laserfiche\Client8 and export the key in your registry as a backup.
-- Open the DocumentToolbars-Bar0 key and set the value of Floating  to 0
-- Open the Toolbars-Bar0 key and set the value of Floating to 0

While preserving the rest of the user settings.  Credit to Bruce Green, MultiMed Billing Services (Run Smarter Award Winner, see why?)

Thanks for posting this solution.
We just had a call from an end user with the exact same issue missing the Menu bar on the top of Client Version 10.4.

We only had to change the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Laserfiche\Client8\ DocumentToolbars-Bar0\Floating value from 1 to 0 to resolve their issue.

Right click in the blue area where the toolbar is, select customize. In the popup window select the Toolbars tab and check the Menu box.

I have tried that but right-clicking the blue area only provides options that control the viewer window: restore, minimize, etc.  For some reason the customize option associated with the menu and toolbar cannot be accessed by right clicking. It is as if the menu and toolbar were deleted.

I think you might be right clicking on the title bar and not the toolbar area. The attached screenshot shows a yellow box. Can you make sure that is the area you are right clicking in?

The toolbar area is what is missing so I cannot click on it.  All the document viewer displays is the Title bar with the panes (thumbnail, image, etc) directly below it.

I was able to reproduce the issue, so I'd recommend contacting your reseller about possibly opening a Support case so that we can look into it further.

For anybody else having this issue, I resolved it by deleting the toolbar settings under [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Laserfiche\Client8].

Thanks Clint, this worked for me twice. Sometimes I am just moving too fast and drag the menu bar away from the LF window... this is the only way I could restore.

We have addressed this problem in Laserfiche Client 9.2 (see release announcement). Menu bar can no longer be moved or undocked. Toolbar can be put back via Option > Reset after closed.

We ran into an interesting situation related to this.  The user had set their menu to run in a vertical direction on the left hand side of the display,  Then we upgraded from 9.1 to 9.2. The menu bar is still running vertically, and we can't move it back to the top.  Is there a registry setting we can change?  Or, do we need to uninstall 9.2, reinstall 9.1, change the menu, and then install 9.2 again?

Is the display locked in place, like seen below?

If so, try unlocking it and then confirm that you can drag the toolbar back to the top and have it run horizontally.

Hi Alex -

Actually it is not locked.  The menu is where the Icon Bar is on your example, running down the left hand side.  Whether locked or unlocked, it cannot be moved.  The only remedy I can see right now is 1) a registry key edit, or 2) uninstall 9.2, reinstall 9.1 where the menu could be moved, and reinstall 9.2 again.
