asked on January 24, 2014

Hi

Is there any known issues regarding the instalation of Laserfiche and SQL 2012 R2 Express, on Server 2012 Essentials.

I know that Laserfiche is compatable with 2012 server but I have a customer asking if it is compatable with the Essentials version.

From investigating on the internet I canot find ant reason why it would not work OK but I would like to double check with you.

Hi there,

Windows Server 2012 is supported for Laserfiche Versions 8.3.2 and above, as listed in our Knowledge Base articles about supported configurations for Laserfiche 8 and for Laserfiche 9. Since Essentials is one of the four types of Windows Server 2012, you shouldn’t have any problems. However, I should point out that Windows Server 2012 Essentials is designed for small businesses and home offices, and thus has some limitations. You can find the exact details of what each version of Windows server supports with a quick web search, but some limitations of Essentials 2012 include only supporting 25 users or fewer and not offering Hyper-V virtualization. Depending on the implementation you’re planning, you should consider these limitations when deciding on which version of Windows Server to use.

Regarding SQL, I don’t see any record of a SQL Server 2012 R2 (Express version or not) on Microsoft’s website. If you mean SQL Server 2008 R2 Express or SQL Server 2012 Express, both of these are a supported DBMS for your Laserfiche system. Take a look at the KB articles linked above for a more complete list of supported DBMS options and the specific versions of Laserfiche supported for each. Like with Windows Server Essentials, the Express versions of SQL Server are more limited than the full versions, but are still supported and may provide the functionality you’re looking for depending on the needs of the installation.

I hope this helps!
