Can the iPhone or Android LF App connect as a Public Portal user?
Question
Question
Answer
The current LF Mobile apps do not support connections from a read-only public portal user.
Your response kind of leads me to believe that this has been discussed internally and could possibly be an upcoming feature?
The current iOS and Android apps are designed around capture and participation in business processes and are not really compatible with the idea of public portal. We have had discussions about what a public portal mobile app would be like, so it is on our radar - but I would not characterize it as an upcoming feature.
What are your ideas about a public mobile app? What would you expect it to do?
Essentially Weblink as a mobile app instead of a mobile web page, but i supposed the next question would be "why not just use the mobile version of Weblink?". And I'm not sure I have an answer to that, just seems like it would make sense to have a mobile app for that. I suppose with SDK, it may be possible to build my own mobile app, maybe I'll look into what that would take.
I think where WebLink is just a retrieval system, I would rather have developers spend time on continuing development on Android, iOS and possibly a Windows Phone 8 app. For WebLink it doesn't make much sense because it is meant as a Public Portal essentially and I wouldn't expect to have enough interest from the public to download an app for Laserfiche and try to configure the connection to our repository.
We have a customer that uses Civic Plus for access to their Council Agendas and Packets. The also store these in Laserfiche. They would like to switch over to sharing the files via Weblink to reduce the duplication of storing the files in two places. However, they prefer the mobile view available in Civic Plus and will probably not make the switch to Weblink if we cannot change the Weblink view to look more like the Civic Plus mobile app.
Thanks,
Jen
You can view WebLink on mobile devices through the web browser and it will follow your customizations, you just can't use the Laserfiche Mobile app for public-portal login. That said, the Laserfiche Mobile app isn't customizable in the same way WebLink is anyway, so that doesn't sound like what'd you want to do in the first place.
Justin - any change in the works for this feature, since your last post in 2015? Such as the ability to connect the mobile app through the web-link server?
