Question

Email document approval

asked on January 16, 2014

It is my understanding that Forms has the ability for a user to reply to a system generated email and approve a form using the word "approve".

Is this type of functionality available in Workflow?

Example, a PDF is sent to a user and the user replies "Approve" and this changes the metadata in the approve which in turn triggers a new Workflow action.

This feature is not available in Workflow. It is on our To Do list, but we don't have an estimate for its release at this time.

Is there any update on the availability functionality, to be able to approve a document from email using Workflow?

Thanks!

Any updates now - 7 years have passed since the original question?

Very interested!

This functionality is not yet in Workflow, but I do not know if their are plans or not to introduce this or not. It definitely would be a useful functionality to have.

How much of this can be built in workflow? Couldn't you mimic this process with a business process or workflow that would move the file to a different folder while its out for approval?

The only portion I would think that would be missing is an automated event once the email is replied to. is this correct?

If you have a program like the Integrated CMA Email Manager you could auto import the emails into the repository and that could trigger a workflow to approve/deny the entry that is the subject of the email.
