Question

Can the recycle bin NOT get deleted pages?

asked on January 13, 2014

Our recycle bin is really large with most of our entries being pages. Is there a way to disable JUST the page delete entries in the recycle bin? Or do I need to manually create a page purge mechanism via the toolkit?

Our processing generates significant page deletes, so at a minimum, this would make viewing our recycle bin more efficient (at about 200,000 entries). Right now, it appears that about 95% of the delete entries are pages.

If this is happening in your normal processing automation, you should be able to automate purging specific items as well. Similar to how a user can open up their individual recycle bin and select specific items to purge or restore.

Are you saying you don't want pages to show up in the Recycle Bin? I don't think there's a way to do that, but what I've done when I wanted finer control over deletions is to move entries to a hidden location and then have Workflow purge them according to various rules. I'd imagine something similar would work with pages.

Correct - I'm looking for pages to never be in the recycle bin.

I don't want to duplicate entries - I really want to purge pages as they're deleted.

Thanks Justin, I've got a cleanup script ready for testing. Was kinda hoping there was a setting to keep those out going forward, but this will work.
