Question

How can the Admin delete a folder that was auto-locked by workflow after the workflow has been deleted? (Error 9013)

asked on January 7, 2014

Hi,

So, myself and the laserfiche rep created a workflow that locked a folder for read only. Somehow I saved over the workflow that created the auto-lock and now I can not delete the folder.

How can I get rid of this older in the repository?

Are you sure it is locked? That error also comes up if a folder has an entry inside it that has a security tag set on it. The security tag would cause the document/entry to not appear when you look at the properties of the folder (so it could say nothing is inside the folder, but really there is an entry with a security tag set).

To fix this, you will need to add the admin account to whatever security tag groups it is not a part of, and then it will be able to remove the tag successfully and delete the entry and the folder containing it.

EDIT: Justin Pava also makes a strong case, you may wish to examine the access rights as a Folder cannot be locked but can have certain rights removed from it. What activities did you do to the folder that you believe it as the root of the folder not being deletable

Thank you so much. It never occurred to me that I needed to add access rights to the actual document. I was just trying to do it on the folder. Thank you both for your help.

Generally you don't need to - each entry has an 'inherit rights from parent' setting in the entry access rights dialog. In almost all cases you'll want to keep that setting turned on to avoid exactly this type of issue - it's significantly harder to troubleshoot security with it disabled. You may want to check if your workflows are responsible for disabling this and if there's a specific reason to do that in this fashion - sometimes there are, but often security can be set up differently such that this isn't necessary.

If it's just a normal entry lock, it should time out after a while, or when the server restarts. You can also check the 'entry locks' node under 'activity' in the Laserfiche Administration Console. If it's a persistent lock (Checked out), you can check the 'checked out entries' node in the same place. If it's listed in either place, you can manually undo the lock there.

Hi Justin,

It has been locked for some time now. The rep was suppose to help me figure out how to delete it, but he has been a bit busy. Anyways, I checked under all Activities in the Laserfiche Admin Console and "There are no items to show in this view."

I also reset the server and all LF programs.

Oh, I I thought you meant locked by internal entry lock, but looking at it again, perhaps this is by removing entry access rights (terminology different, no big). Have you checked the entry access rights on the folder? Go to it in the Client, right click, and select Access Rights. It may have been disabled in that fashion.
