Question

Compare a field value (i.e. VAT No) with the VAT No in SAGE

asked on January 7, 2014

Do we have a functionality or a LF product, which could compare a field value (i.e. VAT No) with the VAT number in SAGE?

Hi Uzair,

Sage Line 50 can be accessed by an ODBC driver. Higher versions will have an SQL table. I've accessed the customer table but I don't know the invoice table.

I know that's not what you asked but I have another reason for replying...

We are getting more and more requests from customers to read invoices (via Quickfields) and automatically populate Sage ledger tables. Ideally, we'd do this via workflow. If you think this would be useful, can you also mention it to Laserfiche at the conference next week?

Regards,

Ben

Do I need to do SDK scripting for this?

Or does product like Affinity could be of any help for me?

What methods do you have for accessing the VAT No in the Sage software? For example a database or file export.

Chad,

Thanks for your reply. I haven't tried accessing data from SAGE yet as I was looking for the best option to achieve this.

Ben,

Thanks for the suggestion. I will see if I can make use of the customer table to achieve the desired results. I am currently in requirements gathering phase and will be actively working on this project by the end next week. So by then I would come up with questions and answers.

Because of the busy schedule, I wouldn't be flying for the conference this year, but I will ask my colleagues to raise this with Laserfiche.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Uzair

In quick fields with Real-Time lookup (or maybe it's all together in Rio), you can query an odbc database to verify or populate fields. We use it to verify account numbers against a SQL database and to populate templates from an Access database.

Also, you can export list contents to a .csv (excel and more) file from search results. So, for example, you could search for the documents you want to compare (all with a specific template within a data range, perhaps). Make sure the number you want to compare is in your column display in the results pane of the search window. Then go to File, Export, List Contents and find a place for your .csv file. That's not a real-time solution, but it also does not require Quick Fields.
