original message........................

I am trying to use ActivationTool, to deactivate my Laserfiche server.  The existing server is UNITED, and I am transitioning to RIO.  I need to deactivate my production LF server, and then reactivate it with temp keys prior to bringing the RIO license manager online.

On my production LF server, in an administrative command prompt, and in the same directory as ActivationTool.exe, AND lf.licx is located, I am issuing the command:

  activationtool.exe -deactivate -licpath "c:\program files\laserfiche\server\lf.licx"

This will fail with 'invalid activation key'.  In the LFActivationLog.txt file, I see the entry:

1/7/2014 3:39:14 AM: C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Server\ActivationTool.exe -deactivate -licpath c:\program files\laserfiche\server\lf.licx(6644)
1/7/2014 3:39:19 AM: Attempting to deactivate key 'USxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx' for ('(-----------------------------, -----------------------------------------------)', '9c-8e-99-10-64-32')(6644)
1/7/2014 3:39:20 AM: Product deactivation failed; please contact Laserfiche Support for assistance. (Invalid activation key.)(6644)
1/7/2014 3:39:26 AM: Tool exited with status code: -3.(6644)

Can you advise what i am doing wrong??

tks

I'm seeing validation requests in our database for the key that starts with "US083" on Jan 6, 2014.

The log says the key is invalid, which is consistent with what happens in our production database when you decide to switch from United to Rio (the old keys are invalidated and new Rio keys are issued). So, don't worry about deactivating that key, just activate your server with the new one.

The issue was resolved by just using ActivationTool to overwrite the existing license key.  This is following "Miruna's" suggestion/post from yesterday. Thanks for your helpsmiley

Hello Dave,

Try to issue the command below:

ActivationTool.exe -deactivate -key LFxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx -fingerprint xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx -hostid xx-xx-xx-xx-xx

Be note that fingerprint and hostid should be for the machine that you have Laserfiche Server on it.

To manually deactivate Laserfiche Products :

Example 1:

ActivationTool.exe -deactivate -licpath "C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Server\lf.licx"

Example 2:

ActivationTool.exe -deactivate -licpath "C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Server\lf.licx" -logpath "C:\Temp\LFActivationLog.txt"

Example 3:

ActivationTool.exe -deactivate -key ABCDE-ABCDE-ABCDE-ABCDE-ABCDE -fingerprint 1234567890ABCDE1234567890ABCDE12 -hostid 00-11-22-33-44-55

if this issue still appear please try to disconnect the firewall and then try
