Question

Initiate a Workflow from a Command Line

asked on January 2, 2014

(Reposting since Forum post did not carry over to new Answers site)

I have a batch file that runs an external import process that needs to initiate a workflow when it is complete.

The process imports nearly 90,000 files and the workflow can't start until the import is complete.

Is it possible to initiate a workflow from a DOS Command Line?

Thanks,

Greg Vermilion

Greg,

The Laserfiche Workflow 9 SDK shipped with a command line utility to start workflows.  It was part of the sample utilities if I recall correctly.  I read the text file that is associated with the utility and I don't see any copyright information so I believe it is OK to provide it to you.  It is attached as a zip file.  I have not used it but the code behind it in the SDK documentation seems straight forward.

Hope that helps!

Greg,

It would appear that the upload utility will not accept a zip file attachment.  I did a quick search on the support website and it apparently is a Workflow 8.3 (not 9.0) SDK utility.  Here is the link to the download site;

FYI - I published a quick workflow in my 9.02 system and the command line utility successfully started it.

Hmmm.  No attachment.  I have the SDK and found the code you're referencing.  I'll take a look at that.

Thanks,

All 8.3 SDK and custom activity related documentation and samples should apply and work for versions 8.3, 9.0, and 9.1 of Workflow.
