Question

Is there a way to carry forward the value of a manually entered field from one document to the next in quick fields

asked on December 19, 2013 Show version history

Basically we have a separator sheet divided file folder.

Does Token Collector work with manually entered field values so we can carry over values from the first document to following documents?

Which activities and/or modules are needed for this.

There is no way to carry forward manually entered field values (other than setting them in the document class as defaults).

If this is a single document class session, you could scan the batch as one document, enter the field values and then manually select pages and split the document into multiple documents.

We are working with a customer that is replacing a system with Ascent Capture.

They have always been able to use patch code pages for document separation.  Then index the first document and all values carry forward to future documents being indexed.

Hi Bryce,

From your description, it sounds more automated than "manually entered fields."

Presales helped up to set up the following scenario using multi-classification:

  • Each case contains multiple documents
  • Each case requires metadata and each document requires metadata from the case plus document-level metadata

The process...

  • Documents are bundled like this: Case cover sheet, Document cover sheet, document (then document cover sheet and document, repeat). Multiple cases were bundled together to create large batched.
  • Quickfields detected the Case cover sheet and applied the metadata to subsequent documents until a new Case cover sheet was found. Documents also got the metadata from the document cover sheets.

We were using barcode (Zone OCR works too), multi-classification, token collector, token retriever.

Ben,

Unfortunately, in this case, the separator pages are the extent of the automation.  They are all the same sheet, just used as a divider from when they used Ascent Capture.  No Type or other identifiers on it.

Now we may be able to use some text capture to gather information like file id number, but that only exists in the first section of the file and isn't consistent, hence the manually entered data.

Bryce, I've found a way to do this a bit outside of QF but leveraging Realtime Lookkup.  If you have that I can help you.  Let me know.
