Question

Empower14 - Schedule on my Calendar?

asked on December 16, 2013

Hello!

Something occurred to me today, as I was looking forward to Empower 2014 in a few weeks and thinking back to Empower 2013 last year.  There are so many wonderful sessions that the schedules can be a bit... complex.   I didn't want to miss anything last year, so I ended up adding individual appointments to my schedule for each of my registered sessions.  Then, when I changed my mind and my sessions I had to manually update the calendar.

Technical Wizards of Laserfiche - there must be a better way! :)

I'm guessing that the conference is too close for a "Laserfiche Empower 2014 App" in the app store, with maps, schedules, etc.

So instead...  could you guys generate .iCal calendars from our schedules?  It would be perfect if we could go to the "Create My Schedule" page and click a link for "Add My Schedule to Calendar" right beneath "View/Print Schedule."  This would let us subscribe to our schedule and get changes updated automatically.

I think this would help Empower attendees with their sessions, and I hope there are others who agree.

Have a great day!

Great idea, Mike. I've submitted it to the suggestion list for Empower 2015.

We've actually looked into it. The quick and dirty way would've been to have a form where you can submit an email address and get back a bunch of emails with individual .ics files. However, that has the drawback that it couldn't check if you're submitting your own address or just trying to spam somebody else.

Getting it properly worked out into the conference site (in order to check that the people actually requested their own schedules) actually needs a bit more time than we have right now.

wink I am guessing that it is too late since we are so close to the event.

If you use Workflow 9.1, just make a spreadsheet* of your sessions and then have workflow go through the list and generate iCal events and add them to your calendar.

*(Maybe even try out the Read XML activity instead)
