Question

Quick Fields Question.

asked on December 11, 2013

Is it possible to scan the electronic document (fillable PDF) with barcode scanning and keep it as electronic document wile saving it to Laserfiche within QF?

We are trying to capture the fillable PDF's and keep it that way, as users needs to update that fillable PDF with information while the document is following the route for approval.

Thank you!

Best,

Himanshu

Where is your source? Laserfiche? You would need Quick Fields Agent to automate the session if you want to regenerate the images after the modifications are done.

You can have Quick Fields keep the electronic file when it does it's thing and saves to Laserfiche.

This sounds like an interesting project, You will likely need to do some testing with how to best set it up to accomplish this goal as best as possible for your client. Good Luck

Thanks Kenneth for the response! I tested that out and it works fine for me to save the electronic file with Quick Fields.

What role does the barcode play? Quick Fields can extract data from the PDF fields without generating images.

One thing you want to consider is that fillable PDFs are not easy to update within Laserfiche. The user has to open the document, update the fields, then save it locally and import the new one back into Laserfiche.

Hey Miruna,

Thanks for the heads up, but I would like to add something that I discovered with my testing and playing with PDF within Laserfiche. So Lest say I open up a editable PDF document within LF, make changes to it. Before closing out the document if I hit Ctrl+S/click on Save and then close the document it will prompt me for overwriting the document within LF. On the other hand if I make changes and hit on closing the document without saving it, it will prompt me if you would like to save the document and at that point if I say YES, it will provide me with the local directory to save the document to.

So basically if I save the document in advance, I can overwrite the existing document within Laserfiche. Hope this helps!

FYI: I am using LF Client and Server 9.0.2 and Adobe Acrobat X Pro v10.1.8

Hope this helps!

Thanks!

If you are using Quick Fields, you will also need to tell it to overwrite existing pages if you are planning to reprocess them throughout the process.
