Question

Laserfiche Client folder pane does not automatically update if a workflow creates a folder

asked on December 9, 2013

I was referred by Laserfiche support to come here. Laserfiche Client's user option settings "Refresh folders automatically" under Browser>Settings only applies to the content pane. If a workflow creates folders/sub-folders in the repository, there is no way of knowing through the folder pane unless you are directly under a folder in which the new folders are created and then have to press F5. This is huge inconvenience to some of the users and especially difficult for people who are technically challenged. Folder pane gives us an easy access to iterate through folders and I believe it is a good use case to allow auto update to happen on the folder pane as well. Is it possible to add this functionality?

Thanks.

It appears that you have already spoken with Alex Huang in Support regarding this issue who informed you that Laserfiche is working as designed.  He also said that you could contact your RM to submit an enhancement request.  I'm not sure if there's much else that we're able to do.

If you're finding that this lack of functionality is especially troublesome for "technically challenged" users, you may want to consider including Business Process details explicitly stating instructions for the next steps of the business process so they know how to properly proceed.

I have had this same issue. I'm not sure entirely what your client's situation is, but have you considered the possibility of sending e-mail notifications for each new submission? I like to pair these with Web Access links and attachments directly to the folder. That way, even if they don't see it right there in Laserfiche they will get that Exchange toast notification in the bottom right corner of their screen.

Not the best answer, but maybe it will help.

Dear Rob,

I find the Laserfiche response(s) unhelpful and condescending to users.

Our user base has also found the lack of auto-refresh very unintuitive and inconvenient which therefore suggests that your designers have missed out on the User Interface plot.

The point here is your designers need to produce a product that users require rather than one that is compromised by their lack of skills or arrogance and or some project plan. This product was sold to me on the basis that it works just like Windows Explorer - it doesn't.

Please submit a request to fix this.

Thanks

Myles

Hey Myles,

I'm sorry that you found the response(s) unhelpful and condescending.  Of course this is not the intent of any correspondence between Laserfiche and the users/VARs, as it is in our best interest to keep customers happy when using the product and VARs happy when selling the product.  If you find that the responses aren't helpful, I encourage you to post any follow-up questions in the thread so that we can adequately address any issue that may arise.

This request has been shared with the appropriate developers to include this feature in an upcoming version.

If you have any additional feature requests, questions, concerns, or ways that we can improve, please share those thoughts with us!

Hi,

it´s been almost 3 years since the last comment in this thread was posted. LF is now in version 10.2.x and it has make important advances, specially in the workflow, automation, forms areas, among others.

Unthinkable for such a high quality software suite that IMHO is among the top 3, that it still lacks this feature: Refresh folders automatically. Or, maybe I´m missing something new?

I think that this feature is not only  "for people who are technically challenged". I consider myself a Laserfiche power user, and still, when I´m in front of audiences, giving a demo, is quite embarrassing to have to jump on the keyboard to press F5 key to "refresh" the view.

My opinion is that if a customer is paying for a quality product like this, it should not lack this apparently easy to implement feature... Any thoughts?
