The Laserfiche SDK 10.2 release now supports CMIS with the Laserfiche CMIS Gateway 10.2, also available as a standalone installation.

I see that Forms is listed as a CMIS client. Does that mean we can use it to retrieve documents from other CMIS systems or even Laserfiche itself?

We are currently investigating support for CMIS.

Laserfiche respects standards and aims to comply with any standard that our current and prospective customer base deems a requirement. That said, as a vendor-driven standard, CMIS is unproven, imperfect, and not necessarily in line with our vision. As far as I know it is not something that we are actively pursuing, but with sufficient customer demand we will investigate implementing it. Over the years it seems like CMIS has only come up a few times. Please let your regional manager know when CMIS comes up as a requirement so we can better gauge if it is worth pursuing CMIS compliance for Laserfiche.

Due to stabilization, increased usage of the standard, and customer requests, we began investigation into  feature mid-2016.

As James mentioned, we released this feature in the recent SDK 10.2.

I have a large client asking if Laserfiche is CMIS compliant. No specifics on the desired use case as of yet.

We also have a large prospect requesting CMIS. While in 2013 it might have been unproven. With some basic google searching it would appear to me that all the main ECM vendors provide it.  For example:

  • Opentext
  • Documentum
  • FileNet P8
  • Alfresco
  • DocuWare

Thanks Justin, This is a significant size account circa 2000 users.  Do you have any idea when you could say LF support it? Would it be ready for LF 11 for example?  It would help if it was on the roadmap.

We have a team that is working on support for CMIS. We don't have an ETA yet but we will post more information regarding this soon.

Hi Alan.

There is a customer who is using Documentum and interested to other ECM solution. Laserfich is one of the solution which can fulfill most of their functional requirements.

They are just concerning if any simple way to migration below from Documentum to Laserfiche.

1. User and group setting

2. File with Folder structure

3. Access right

4. Metadata template and index

5. Document and folder index key

Large client has once again requested CMIS compliance as a requirement to interface with internal cost accounting system.

We have other large clients with systems that house content and would like to be able to interface such content more easily with Laserfiche.

I agree that it would be excellent to see this interface functionality on the road map.
