Question

Laserfiche Forms Table Oracle Data Lookup Support

asked on November 14, 2013

One of our customers reports that it is currently possible to populate a table within Laserfiche Forms from an external database via a Lookup data source only from a Microsoft SQL database and not from an Oracle database.

Please can you confirm either way whether or not our customer's understanding above is correct?

If it is possible to populate a table within Laserfiche Forms from an external database via a Lookup data source from an Oracle database, please can you provide instructions of how to do this.

If it is not possible to populate a table within Laserfiche Forms from an external database via a Lookup data source from an Oracle database, please can you indicate when a version of Laserfiche Forms will be available to do this.

Many thanks, in anticpation.

With kind regards.

You're correct that Forms 9.0 does not support Oracle data sources. Forms 9.1 will include support for Oracle data sources and is slated for Q4 release this year.

If you review the documentation here: http://www.laserfiche.com/support/webhelp/laserficheforms/9.0/en-us/forms/#DataSources.htm

You will find that currently only SQL Databases are supported in LF Forms. This is not to say that they have not considered adding Oracle support in the next release, but only that it currently is not an available option with that functionality

Hi John,

I encountered a similar scenario for a customer who wanted to use data stored in MySQL for use with Laserfiche. SQL Server can be used to link to remote servers, including ODBC, MySQL (via ODBC) and Oracle and this gave us the ability to query MySQL from within Laserfiche. Let me know if you'd like the details.

In that particular solution, the customer required live data from their sales database. If the data doesn't need to be live, you could set up a scheduled task to periodically copy the Oracle data to an MSSQL database.

Since it is clear from the above that it is not possible to populate a table within Laserfiche Forms from an external database via a Lookup data source from an Oracle database, please could an authoratative source from Laserfiche indicate when a version of Laserfiche Forms will be available that will enable table within Laserfiche Forms to be populated from an external database via a Lookup data source from an Oracle database, i.e.where is this functionality feature request on the Laserfiche roadmap?

Many thanks.

Currently there is no official date for the next version of Forms. It does say there will be better database access capabilities inside of Forms but it does not specify what those abilities will be and/or if it includes Oracle lookups

Yeah, Oracle requires extra drivers and configuration to work with .Net applications.
