Question

recreating the named user list after moving Rio LM 8.2 to new hardware

asked on November 13, 2013

Hi.

We are going to be moving a Rio server to new server hardware. We have done this successfully in a test environment. When doing this the application instances have to be recreated and relicensed due to the change in the hardware fingerprint. This is also okay, except that in the process the named user list gets purged in the LM. AD subscriptions are not being used so the named user list cannot be quickly recreated. I see an option to export the user list but no option to import the user list. Is there a quick way to recreate the named user list in a case like this?

Thank you,

Rob

Right, the idea is that the only thing that should need to change is the machine hwfp affiliated with the Rio master liecnse activation key.

btw, the machine in question doesn't need internet access itself to deactivate, check out https://support.laserfiche.com/KB/1012301 for an offline deactivation method.

How are you moving the License Manager database? You shold just be able to detach, move and reattech the license database which will keep all of your settings but update the activated machine. Check out the very last section of the Rio Deployment Guide.

Hi, Justin

An attempt to move the db was made before we got involved. The LM was uninstalled but could not deactivate because that server did not have internet access. The licensing db was then just copied to the new location. The LM license was deactivated manually and successfully reactivated on the new server.

Obviously there were a few steps missed!! If the procedure at the end of the Rio Deployment Guide is followed would this then mean that the named user list will remain intact when the Production LM is moved?

Thank you for the quick reply!!
