Question

Compatibility of LF client version 7 with LF Server version 9

asked on October 30, 2013

Hello,

the Support site says that LF client version 7 is compatible with LF Server version 9.

https://support.laserfiche.com/ow.aspx?Laserfiche9.0/Compatibility

But i upgraded a server of a client to version 9.0.3 and all the users having LF Client 7.2.1 are receiving the following error messages:

Cannot read annotations

Cannot display metadata

Is there something wrong in my specific case, or LF client 7.2.1 is NOT compatible with LF server 9.0.3?

Please help.

Thank you very much,

LF Server 9 is compatible with older clients, including LF Client 7. However, the compatibility is limited to the features available in the older clients. In this case, your document seems to be using annotation types that were not present in version 7, so the Client does not know how to render them, hence the error message. Depending on how you merged fields during migration, some of them could now be multi-value fields, which may be why you're getting the metadata error.

Hi Ignacio,

Client 7 should be compatible with Server 9.  Have you enabled DCOM?  You'll need to make sure that's configured in order for things to work properly.  You can find instructions in the Laserfiche Admin Guide, or in this KB article.

If DCOM is already configured and you're still getting errors, you may have discovered some sort of bug.  The next step will be to open a Support case, and our tech support team will get you straightened out.

Of course, I should point out, Client 9 is a lot nicer than Client 7!  If possible, I'd strongly recommend upgrading your client machines.  But you can definitely stick with 7 if you prefer.
