There are a number of site specific factors that would be required in trying to determine what your bandwidth requirements should be, and because of this we dont have internet speed or bandwidth recommendations. Questions like, how much non-LaserFiche traffic would be populating the bandwidth? What would be the expected usage? How many documents are you going to be accessing/scanning? What is the average size of each document? If you give users a bandwidth of 5KB/sec,  they will still be able to import stuff - it will just be awfully slow.

It really comes down to how you are using the system, and what is acceptable for users.

The amount of data sent between the browser and the Web Access server can be influenced by a number of factors, such as:

  • Number of columns displayed in the folder listing
  • Amount of metadata attached to an entry
  • Number of annotations (especially stamps) on an entry
  • If they scan, the pixel depth and dimensions of the image
  • The size of any documents that are imported
  • Whether any of the static assets (css, js, icons, etc) have been cached

A tool like Fiddler makes it relatively easy to measure the amount of data that goes across the wire while performing various actions, so if you can set up a repository with similar characteristics to the one the user will have you can get a good starting point for your calculations.  From there, you can make a decent estimate of what kind of bandwidth is required to complete actions in a given target time.  Keep in mind that latency is also an important factor to include since it gets added to every HTTP request.

Dears,

but at least Laserfiche should provide some case studies.

Thanks,
