Question

Delay in Opening Big Size Electronic Document

asked on August 21, 2013

Dears,

When Opening a big size electronic document, It seems like Laserfiche download the file and then open it, that takes around 5 minutes for certain big file and more than that. If you put the same file on a shared windows folder, then browse for it in windows and open it, it takes a second.

What is your solution for this?

Thanks,

Dory

Have you considered using WebDAV?  This may speed up performance as the file does not need to be downloaded to the user's machine.  Of course, there's also the possibility that WebDAV has been enabled, but kerberos is not configured. This will also cause a significant delay in opening the file.  I would recommend going to the Tools -> Options -> View -> Open With settings and selecting or de-selecting the 'Open files directly (using WebDAV)' option, depending on how it's configured currently.  If that doesn't make a difference, I'd recommend contacting support, as this does not sound like expected behavior.

Hi Brett,

I would like to use this option but its grayed out in my laserfiche client. Anything shall we do in serverside so that we get this option enabled?

Have you configured WebDAV on the server?

Hi,

As far as I know, Laserfiche Webdav allows users to browse for their documents from windows explorer. in this case webdav is good for my case, but what if the users wants to search for a document from Laserfiche client, find the document and then open it? webdav helps in this case?

Thanks,

Dory Mina

If you enable the option described above, 'Open files directly (using WebDAV)', then WebDAV will be used when opening electronic files from within the Laserfiche Client.

As Brett mentioned, opening the file directly means that the electronic file will not need to be downloaded to the user's machine, so the performance should be better.

As shown in the help files, Web Access supports WebDAV for viewing and editing of electronic files, and should have the same benefits as using WebDAV from the desktop Client.

WebLink does not support WebDAV.
