Question

Disable Windows Authentication Checkbox?

asked on July 30, 2013

Hey gang,

I've got a customer who would like to use Windows Authentication, however they would like Laserfiche (thick client) to prompt the user for their domain credentials upon logging in to prevent any users "hijacking" other users machines and gaining access to folders etc. Is there a way to simply disable the Windows authentication checkbox across the system? Reg hacks?

TL;DR

How can I break the Windows Authentication checkbox?

Thanks!

Hi Hunter-

You can do this by setting up their domain via LDAP, rather than Windows Authentication. Win Auth is just Microsoft's implementation of LDAP. You can follow the directions for connecting to an LDAP host, and just point to your domain controller. When users log in, they will need to enter their passwords. It will actually show a username along the lines of Hunter@domain.com. Luckily, it will remember their username so they only have to enter that the first time.

The downside would be that, if they already have complicated security in place using Windows accounts, you will have to redo it with these new LDAP accounts. If that's a problem, I think there would be a way to make Windows ask for their password again before an application passes their credentials.

I hope this helps!

Thanks Pieter! It's a new customer so we'll be implementing some users in training tomorrow. Excellent timing sir!
