To edit PDF form fields directly, like you’ve observed, a user would have to first export the PDF document. To allow users to update PDF form fields without having to export the documents, you would have to create a Workflow that updates the fields. With the Fill Out PDF Form activity, you can create a Workflow that updates PDF form fields when a user modifies associated Laserfiche metadata fields.
