Folder shortcuts with Laserfiche 9 CD:00411415

asked on May 6, 2013 Show version history

Hi Presales,

One of our clients recently upgraded to version 9.0.1, and are noticing a change with the way shortcuts work. Aside from the Windows Authentication issue that I see is resolved in 9.0.2,  when they go to a folder shortcut in windows, it now shows the whole path to the folder by default rather than making that the root directory by default as it did in version 8.3.2 and earlier. The client has a shortcut for every client that they have that goes to their folder set up in their CRM for when they need to show their clients the files that they have for them. It is then important for them to not be showing who else they have as a client.

The addition mentioned in http://www.laserfiche.com/support/webhelp/Laserfiche/9.0/en-US/UserGuide/Laserfiche_Client.htm#Appendix_E_Parameters.htm for the “makeroot” switch set to value “y” which wasn’t needed by default before, is now needed in 9.0.1 for it to be the root directory. Is there somewhere to make it so that the absence of that would allow it to be the root as it was in version 8.3.2 and older? It would take a lot of time to go back and recreate all of the shortcuts to specify something that was never needed before. If this is absolutely needed, is there a way then to have that added by default so that any new shortcuts that they create will open in the correct way?

I spoke with development about this, and they confirmed that the current behavior in 9 should be reverted (back to displaying the folder as root by default). An SCR has been filed, and they will include this fix in the next release of Client.

Since 9.1 is still a few months away, though, I definitely want to help you find a solution in the interim. As you said, one way to fix the shortcuts would be a manual edit (adding the “makeroot=y” parameter via text editor), but this could take some time if their client list is large. Another possible workaround would be to have the Laserfiche operator disable their Folder Pane, which could either be done semi-permanently (by saving the pane layout) or on demand before/when they need to show something to their client:
