Question

Terminal Servers security for Scanning

asked on April 24, 2013 Show version history

The customer is looking for a way to set permissions on a terminal server without compromising the security on the server.

Question from customer:

“Do you happen to know which folders Laserfiche uses when it is creating PDFs or scanning (like any temp folders it might try to use?).

Right now, it appears that everything works with Local Administrator or Power User privileges. While Power User is more secure than Local Admin, I'm afraid of the server getting infected with malware because some programs can still install or make system level changes.

If we can get an account of where Laserfiche makes it changes to the registry and in the PC, I can set full access permission to just those areas, hopefully negating the need for Power Users permissions.”

For Scanning, they need rights to the locations listed here. If they are using ScanConnect, they also need rights to C:\Windows\Pixtran folder, as well as the setscan.ini file located in C:\Windows. For Universal Capture though, that shouldn’t be necessary.
