Can i install workflow 9.0 pointing to a LF 8.3 server with the thought that i will upgrade the LF server once other integrations have been tested with the 9.02 server?

Yes, Workflow 9 can be installed and will work with Laserfiche Server 8.0 and higher (though we recommend at least Laserfiche 8.3.1). You are also correct in that some of the newer features like business processes will only be available on Laserfiche Server 9.0 and higher.
