Question

Business card scanning-Automatic indexing

asked on May 7, 2013 Show version history

Dear Presales,

We have a scenario where we need to scan business cards. But scanning them from Laserfiche and OCRing them is not successful as the text is not being well read.

1-      Is there a proper scenario to scan business cards and index them through Laserfiche?

2-      Can we integrate business card scanner within  Laserfiche? While being able to retrieve the information and index them automatically? Or we need to make them manually?

I’d strongly recommend using PhotoDocs for this.  You can take a picture with your phone, and then upload that to Laserfiche through PhotoDocs.  The ‘Flat Page’ crop is perfect for cutting out everything but the business card itself, and in conjunction with auto-rotate and a conversion to black and white, you’ll usually get impressive results.  Laserfiche Mobile even has our patented PhotoDocs algorithms built in, making it an ideal solution for capturing business card data on the go.

As for automating the process, that’s definitely possible!  PhotoDocs has a pretty extensive set of automation options, and it can even be launched automatically when your phone/camera is plugged into the computer.  So all you need to do is plug in your device and watch PhotoDocs process and store things for you.  I wrote aPresales Place a while back that discusses all the uses of PhotoDocs, including an example of working with business cards.   You might want to check it out!  (I should note though: despite the image being in full color in the article, it’s probably smarter to convert your business card to black and white, since you’ll get a better OCR and reduce file size).
