Question

Adjusting image size with Workflow?

asked on May 7, 2013 Show version history

Hey Presales!

I’ve got a customer who is having issues with one of their satellite users scanning in full, extra large, 24 bit color. As this particular is super high volume already- I recently informed him about PhotoDocs, however, there are literally tons and tons of docs that are already scanned in color and I was wondering if there was some way we could automate that?

Also, does KB article 1012570 still apply with 8.3.x?

Hi there,

I’m not entirely sure what you’re using PhotoDocs for.  Are you converting to black and white?  There’s no way to automate PhotoDocs for files already stored in Laserfiche, but if you’re just converting to black and white, you may want to consider using the Image Converter Utility.  Be sure to read the instructions thoroughly, test carefully, and back up before you do anything drastic.  Once a file has been converted, there’s no way to undo things or re-run the utility on the file with different settings.  The utility needs to be installed on a machine with a copy of Laserfiche 8 Client installed, but it sounds like you’re still using 8 anyway.  And as for your last question: yes, that KB article still applies to 8.3 as well.

Hi Presales,

I've a customer with a similar issue. They are on Laserfiche Rio 9.0 and has more than ITB of greyscale documents stored in the repo processed via Quick Fields. The original size of the documents in windows is smaller than the one stored in the repo and the customer is complaining about the disk space.

Can I use the Image Converter Utility on a workstation with Laserfiche Client 8.3 / 8.1 running to compress the existing stored documents? or

Is there any workflow SDK script which can be used to automate the compression of documents in the repo?

Also are there going to be any issues in future after compressing the documents using the Image Converter Utility?
