Internet Connectivity for Laserfiche

asked on April 25, 2013 Show version history

The client's company is considering removing internet access from the Laserfiche Servers. Which Laserfiche products require internet access in order to function? For example, we know that License Manager needs an internet connection to perform updates to the master license file. The following is a list of applications that the client has installed:

Installed Laserfiche apps:

1.            Audit Trail

2.            Full Text Search

3.            LF Server

4.            License Manager (we already know that this requires an internet connection)

5.            PhotoDocs

6.            QuickFields

7.            QuickFields Agent

8.            Snapshot

9.            Web Access

10.          Web Admin Console

11.          WebLink (Currently not intended to provide access outside of the company Intranet)

12.          Workflow

Supporting apps:

13.          2008 R2 SQL Server

14.          IIS 6.0

What do you think?

On a Laserfiche Rio system, the only component that strictly requires an internet connection is the License Manager during master license activation, as you mentioned. Other components just need to have network access to each other in order to communicate.

Now obviously web products such as Forms, Web Access, Web Admin, etc. need an internet connection to provide access to users outside of the network, but if all users accessing the system are on the internal network than it shouldn’t be a problem
