Laserfiche can model business processes in two different products: Forms and Workflow.  It looks like you’re concerned primarily with Forms, but because Workflow is such an integral part of any Laserfiche solution, I’ll address both products in my response.

Laserfiche Forms uses standard BPMN, while Workflow uses our own proprietary modelling format.  Both Workflow and Forms allow you to export your diagrammed business process as an image, complete with any notes you’ve added to the diagram.  It’s also possible to export the actual business process (in the case of Forms, as an XML file, and for Workflow, as a proprietary WFI format).  Forms is its own business rule manager, and Workflow acts as the business rule manager for Laserfiche.

I generally agree with the posted answer above, but feel obliged to add that I tried using some BPMN 1.0 and BPMN 2.0 compliant tools, and it was never possible to import or export (to effectively exchange) any Laserfiche Forms processes back or forth, as of the 2014 conference dates. At that time I had asked, and it was confirmed, that while Laserfiche Forms "...uses standard BPMN...", it does not do so fully.

In other words, if you already know (or are learning) BPMN, it is very intuitive to understand the interface and steps/activities in Laserfiche Forms, because they are largely similar, but don't expect them to be interchangeable yet. But I sure hope this approach continues to the point where it reaches standardization, because I think it is a great direction. yes

For helpful references, I recommend putting "BPMN 1.0 Poster" or "BPMN 2.0 Poster" into your favourite search engine.
