Question

How do you clear a document revision pane in QuickFields?

asked on September 25

This is our experience working with the revision pane trying to delete these scans. Version 11.0.2303.30119

We can only delete some of them with no explanation as to why we can not delete the others. Also when we close and re-open the session it just loads up all the ones we deleted again.

We ended up going to the local revision save location on disk and deleting the folder found by the session ID when opening the session in notepad but that still left documents behind, then we could finally delete those documents

Hi,

Thanks for the detailed description. We do have some known bugs in Quick Fields that match your symptoms — the root cause is related to file permissions on the Quick Fields working directories. However, we are not sure it's the same issue you're hitting, so we'd like to collect a bit more information.

Could you please confirm the following?

  1. On this machine, do multiple Windows accounts scan into / work with the same session? Is Quick Fields running as a non-administrator user? Were the documents that cannot be deleted generated by a different user (e.g., an admin or another scanning account)?
  2. Did you see any other errors or logs — either a popup dialog or entries in the Errors pane — when deleting the documents, or when reopening the session?

Potential workarounds:

  1. Run Quick Fields as Administrator ("Run as administrator"), then perform the delete/store operations in the revision pane.
  2. Add full access permissions to the following for the user who will view/process the documents:
    1. The SessionVariables XML file(s) under C:\ProgramData\Laserfiche\Quick Fields\SessionVariables
    2. The Files folder under C:\ProgramData\Laserfiche\Quick Fields\Files
    • Note: You may need to take ownership of the files/folder first and re-enable inheritance (via Properties →Security → Advanced)
  3. If documents still remain after that: with the permissions above granted, delete the session-ID folder under C:\ProgramData\Laserfiche\Quick Fields\Files (attempts you have already made).
  4. If the documents were OCRed and had the Text View enabled in the viewer while deleting, this can trigger a separate known issue (file-not-found errors on .bxd/.loc files, or a crash when reopening the session). In that case, please close the Text View before deleting, or use "Delete All" on the parent node in the revision pane.

Please let us know the answers to the questions above and whether the workarounds helped — that will let us confirm whether your case matches the known bug or if we should investigate further.

Just looked at it with him again today. He is in the Administrators group of the workstation. We were not getting any errors when trying to delete from the revision pane last time but we did get an access denied to path error when trying to scan this morning. It said "Access denied to path '32498047283nfd234yfg2nf82739' which is not a path.

We tried running as Administrator and that was a good workaround. Would be nice if it told us what path we don't have access to.

We checked effective rights on the Quickfields folder in appdata and it showed full control. It would be hard to run many Windows apps if you can't write to this folder, most apps do in order to keep people from seeing the files and deleting them. Some apps write to Documents but then the user says "What's this?" and deletes it.
