V12 Windows Client: Columns Disappearing Spontaneously

asked on September 24

We have a situation where a RIO system is running in Azure, using Virtual Desktops (VDM). With the Version 12 Windows client, we are experiencing odd display behavior.

While navigating Laserfiche with the Windows Client with multiple columns showing, when the screen refreshes there is a chance that all columns except the Name will disappear. When this happens, the active column list in the user’s profile is replaced with the single column. Saved column sets are not affected and can be restored.

We have ruled out per-folder column settings. Only one of the affected users had this feature enabled, and the issue persisted for that user after turning it off.

Workarounds and workaround issues include:

  • Building the desired column set and save it, knowing we might have to re-load the saved columns at any time,
  • Disabling automatic refresh to reduce its opportunities to happen - but, the client will often refresh on it's own for various reasons.
  • Switching to the web client - with users reporting that the web client is less user friendly.

We are going to turn on tracing for a few clients, and probably open a support case.  Has anyone else come across this behavior?

The same thing also happened to us. Some users reported this issue, it happens sporadically and not sure what causes it. It all started after we upgraded to LF 12.

Thank you all for sharing this issue and the workarounds you've tried.

To help us better investigate the problem, could you please provide more details?

  1. What actions are most likely to trigger the issue? Does it only happen while navigating between different folders, or have you observed it after other operations (for example, refreshes or searches)?
  2. Could you provide the exact versions of the Desktop Client and Server that are being used?
  3. Tracing logs would be helpful in narrowing down the root cause.

Thanks Liping. One user reported that the issue happened when they snapshot a color photo to the folder. We are on Laserfiche 12 and server is 2022.

In our case, it seems to be most common in the Windows client during viewer refresh events, like when workflow moves a document. There are also others, we'll come back with more detail.
