Question

Is there a native way for Workflow Custom AI Task to process the image pages of a Laserfiche entry?

asked on July 21 • Show version history

I'm experimenting with the Workflow Custom AI Task to perform handwriting recognition on documents stored as Laserfiche image documents.

Currently, I'm using a third-party activity (Qfiche Document Export) to temporarily export the entry as a PNG so it can be passed to the Custom AI Task through the For Each File activity.

I'm wondering if there's a supported native approach that avoids exporting the document.

Specifically:

  • Can the Custom AI Task consume the image pages of a Laserfiche repository entry directly?
  • Is there a native Workflow activity that exposes a Laserfiche image document as an image file token?
  • If not, is exporting the document (temporarily) currently the recommended or expected approach?

The Qfiche custom activity has actually worked very well for this purpose but my manager would prefer that I use a native solution if one exists.

Hi Michael,

  • The Custom AI Task can only consume exported docs. It cannot consume a Laserfiche repository entry directly.
  • No.
  • Yes, the AI activities use local documents as file input.

Thanks,

I still can't get this to work. The actual file is in this folder:

The For Each File activity is pointing to it:

This is how I am trying to use the token in the prompt for the AI:

But the Custom AI Task activity throws an error:

This is the error message that I get when I run the workflow:

If I manually create the folder 'C:\ProgramData\Laserfiche\WF\ServerData\C\Temp\PNGLocation\' and put the 'Entry_50_Page_000006.png' file in it then it works.

And I can actually do this using an SDK Script to "double export" the PNG from an entry to both locations. I can kludge my way around it, but it just doesn't feel like this is how it ought to be done. What am I missing?

We are a Laserfiche Direct customer and have already opened a ticket with LFC Support but they are scratching their heads over this at the moment just like me.

Hi Michael,

The wrong path behavior is filed as the bug #698450. We will notify you as soon as the bug fix is released.

Thanks,
