Question

Why saving the data on hidden required fields not pass validation?

asked on July 7

If I create a required field, hide it, and tell it to save the data, but the data is empty it does not pass validation on submission and it kicks the submission into the trash. Why is this? Save the data should just mean that any data that might exist should be saved if hidden not to violate the validation.

Have you checked your Form settings-> backend validation? It might be set to validate user input or validate all, then it means even it can be sumitted, Forms will check the submission data again. Could you check?

There is a Process Options, but not backend validation. There is no Settings page.

This is controlled at a Form level, in your Form, you should have a settings tab, and there wil lbe Backend Validation Level to set. e.g. for the modern form designer, classic form has its settings page per form too.

If it's possible the data wouldn't exist, why make it required?

I don't want this section on the initial form, but when it shows up on a task, I want a field to be required. It is a super common configuration to conditionally require fields.
