Question

Workflow textbox being applied is misaligned and rotated 90 degrees

asked on June 25

Hello,

I am having an issue with a workflow that is applying a textbox to a document. It's not very large, just three small lines. On most documents this textbox is applied in the top right corner without issue, but on some documents this textbox is rotated 90 degrees and applied near the lower right.

I've reviewed the problematic documents compared to the ones not exhibiting the problem and the only notable difference I was able to find is that the problem documents are 600x600 DPI compared to the normal documents at 300x300 DPI. Running tests on different documents does seem to support the DPI being involved, however one run on a 600 DPI document did result in the textbox being applied in the top right but crowded to the right resulting in a condensed textbox not displaying all lines.

The location setting for the textbox is on Custom and has an X coordinate setting with a very high value to push it all the way to the right. Beyond that one setting, everything else is standard. With the multiple tests the only other document attribute that might be involved is each one displaying the issue has multiple pages.

Is there anything that could be affecting the misalignment of a text in the described way? I can provide more information on the different documents. The workflow is very basic; the only function is to apply the textbox on each page, so I don't think workflow is causing complications.

Almost sounds like it is registering the page as rotated when viewed, but not when processed in Workflow.

Can you show a screenshot of how you have the "Add Text Box" activity configured?

Here is a screenshot of the Textbox configuration:

Let me know if you need any other information.

Matthew's point is that maybe the page came in sideways and was then rotated to the proper orientation by a user. That rotation is actually just a display setting and, since everything stored in LF is intended to be unalterable, the original image retains its sideways orientation. Sounds like WF might be trying to apply based on the actual image orientation rather than the rotated display.

@████████ is that how WF's annotations work?

Yes. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to check whether the image has its "rotate for display" flag on from any of the clients.
